What onboarding sets up

Why some settings are in the wizard and others aren't, and what it means for day-one readiness.

Onboarding is deliberately minimal. The wizard covers the smallest set of configuration needed to reach a bookable state — everything else happens after, once you're in the app and have real context.

What the wizard configures

  • Your site's identity — name, contact details
  • At least one bookable service — something customers can book
  • Optional: resources — rooms, staff, or equipment (skippable because some sites use entirely virtual services)
  • Public booking surface — URL, branding, notification preferences

The wizard doesn't run validation against real-world readiness — it's structural, not operational. You can finish onboarding with a single service and no resources, and the site is technically bookable. Whether that configuration works for your pharmacy is up to you to refine from the Settings pages.

What's deferred to Settings

Some things aren't in onboarding because they require context the wizard can't provide at first run:

  • Trading hours — most sites have pre-existing hours; configuring in a dedicated UI with exception dates is faster than in a wizard step
  • Integrations (PRODA, AIR, PPA) — each requires credentials and external setup with Services Australia or PPA Portal
  • Team members — often added as the pharmacy gets set up, not before day one
  • Kiosk devices — physical hardware that's configured once the tablets arrive

Putting these in the wizard would either add friction (users without the credentials/hardware handy) or encourage skipping — neither helps.

Why a wizard at all

A guided wizard is the clearest way to say "here are the six things you need before you can take a booking". Without it, a new site admin might sign in, see a dozen Settings pages, and not know where to start — ending up with a misconfigured site that fails to surface bookings on the public portal.

The wizard trades flexibility for clarity at first run. After completion, you have the full Settings surface for fine-tuning.

Can you re-run onboarding?

No. Onboarding is a one-time flow per site. If you need to reset a step's configuration, do it from the relevant Settings page. The wizard isn't visible after completion.

What "done" means

Onboarding ends with a Completion screen and a two-second delay before the Dashboard opens. Behind the scenes, Light marks the site as onboarded; no further wizard-only state affects day-to-day use.

If the Completion screen appears but some configuration looks wrong after landing on the Dashboard, everything is still editable via Settings. You haven't locked anything in by clicking through.
