Holiday and exception dates
Configure closures and special hours for specific dates.
For days that don't follow your normal trading hours — Christmas closures, public holidays, staff training days, shortened hours — use Special Trading Hours and Closures. Entries here override the weekly schedule for the specific dates they apply to.
Public holidays
Light auto-populates Australian public holidays to save you entering them one by one. In the Edit Trading Hours sheet, turn on Closed by default on public holidays to mark every auto-populated holiday as closed.
Public holidays show in a separate group under the Special Trading Hours section. You can't delete them, but you can override them — for example, open for limited hours on Good Friday by adding your own exception entry for that date.
The "populated up to" date at the top of the section shows how far ahead Light has pre-filled public holidays. They extend automatically as the year progresses.
Adding an exception
- Open the exceptions section
On Settings›Trading Hours, scroll to Special Trading Hours and Closures.
- Add
Tap Add. The Add Special Trading Hours sheet opens.
- Fill in the details
- Name (optional) — a short label (e.g. "Stocktake", "Staff training", "Easter Saturday reduced hours")
- Date — the date the exception applies to
- Operating — toggle off to close completely, on to set custom hours for the day
- Time ranges — if operating with custom hours, add one or more ranges
- Notes (optional) — internal notes for other staff
- Save
The exception shows in the list. On that date, the calendar, booking form, and public portal all honour the exception instead of the weekly schedule.
Viewing further ahead
The default view shows the next 6 months of exceptions. Switch to 12 Months or All Future to see further out — useful when planning around year-end closures.
Exception vs blocked time
Two related concepts:
- Trading hours exception — site-wide closure or special hours for a date. Applies to every resource. Honoured by the public portal.
- Blocked time — an ad-hoc block on the calendar for specific resources. Doesn't affect the public portal's notion of "open".
For recurring or all-site closures (public holidays, end-of-year shutdown), use an exception. For one-off resource-specific events (a specific room in use for training), see Blocking time on the calendar.
Editing or deleting
Your own exceptions can be edited or deleted. Public holidays can only be overridden (add your own entry for the same date).
