Navigating Light
The main layout — left nav, workspace, and where to find actions.
Light's interface has three main areas that stay consistent across every page:
- Left navigation — top-level sections (Dashboard, Calendar, Bookings, Customers, Services, Claims, Orders (future), Settings, and others enabled for your site)
- Workspace — the current page's content
- Context actions — per-page actions that live in the top bar of the workspace
The left nav
Tap an icon on the left to switch sections. On narrow screens the nav collapses to icon-only; on wider screens it shows labels too. Sections not available to your site (feature-gated or role-gated) don't appear.
The workspace
The workspace fills the rest of the screen. Most pages follow a predictable pattern:
- Page heading and subtitle at the top
- Primary actions (Add, Edit, Filter, Search) in the top right
- The page's main content below
Some pages have tabs at the top for sub-sections — the customer profile, a service's detail page, the claims filter, and so on.
Common patterns
- Add / Create — primary button, usually green or prominent, top right
- Search — magnifying-glass icon that opens a popover input
- Filter — funnel icon, with a badge count showing active filters
- More / Overflow — three-dot menu for secondary actions on a row
Keyboard users can open most popovers and menus with the same interactions as tapping.
Getting back
- Back links appear on detail pages — they return to the list
- Breadcrumbs aren't heavily used; prefer the left nav to jump between sections
- Home — the Dashboard is effectively home. Tap the Dashboard icon to return from anywhere
What's on the Dashboard
The Dashboard is the default landing page. It shows today's work — bookings and standalone services — grouped by day, with per-day actions for adding bookings or services and printing a run sheet.
For most staff it's the first page they open each shift. See Using the dashboard for the full tour.
