Finding actions
Where actions live — page buttons, row menus, keyboard shortcuts, and the command palette.
Actions in Light live in four predictable places. Knowing where to look saves a lot of hunting.
Page-level actions
At the top right of every page's workspace. Primary action first (Add, Create, Edit), then supporting actions (Search, Filter, Export). Only actions relevant to the current page appear here.
Example: on the Bookings page, Add creates a booking. On the Services settings page, Add creates an offering. Same button position, different outcome depending on where you are.
Row-level actions
On tables — booking list, customer list, claims list — each row has a three-dot menu at the right. Actions here operate on that row: view, edit, delete, or something row-specific (Manage Voucher, Submit Claim).
Tapping a row usually opens the detail page. The row menu is for actions you can perform without opening the detail.
Per-object actions inside detail pages
Detail pages often have their own action bar at the top — icons for edit, delete, reschedule, and so on. These operate on the object the page is about.
A customer detail page has an edit pencil for customer details. A booking detail page has reschedule, delete, and actions specific to that booking.
Keyboard shortcuts
Some actions have keyboard shortcuts. They're discoverable in two ways:
- On buttons — shortcut hints appear near the button where one exists
- In the shortcuts reference — Keyboard shortcuts lists everything available today
Light keeps shortcuts minimal and pharmacy-relevant — no keyboard shortcut exists just to exist. If something common doesn't have one and should, it's worth raising for a future release.
The command palette
Not every site has this enabled yet, but some do: a command palette that opens with a keyboard shortcut and lets you jump to any page, run any action, or search any record. When present, it's the fastest way to get anywhere.
When you can't find the action
Three common causes:
- You're on the wrong page. Actions are page-scoped — "Create booking" isn't on the Services settings page. Navigate to Bookings or the Dashboard first.
- Your role doesn't have permission. Some actions are restricted to admin or owner roles; they don't appear for others.
- The feature isn't enabled. Some actions only exist when a feature flag is on for your site (e.g. billing, orders). If an action should be there but isn't, check with your site admin.
