Individual indicators
What each indicator on a customer's immunisation record means.
AIR stores a handful of status indicators on each customer. They affect what vaccines are due, how the customer is categorised for claiming, and whether clinical warnings appear before recording.
Indicators appear on the Immunisations / Identification tab and — for the clinically significant ones — also surface as warnings when recording a vaccination.
The indicators
| Indicator | What it means | How it's set |
|---|---|---|
| Planned Catch Up | The customer is enrolled in a catch-up schedule with a scheduled date. | Set in AIR; editable by clinicians |
| Medical Contraindication | The customer has a recorded contraindication to one or more vaccines. | Automatic when a contraindication is recorded |
| Natural Immunity | The customer has recorded natural immunity to one or more diseases. | Automatic when natural immunity is recorded |
| Vaccine Trial | The customer is enrolled in a current vaccine trial. | Recorded on the Vaccine Trials tab |
| Action Required | AIR has flagged that follow-up is needed (missing dose, expired eligibility, data quality issue). | Set by AIR |
| Special Risk Group | The customer is classified as an at-risk group for expanded vaccine eligibility. | Set in AIR by a clinician |
Why indicators matter
Indicators drive what appears as due. A customer flagged Special Risk Group may have extra vaccines recommended; a Medical Contraindication removes vaccines from the due list for the relevant antigen.
Indicators also drive warnings during vaccination encounters. If you try to record a vaccine that the customer has a contraindication for, the encounter form shows a warning before submission — you can override with a clinical reason, but you'll be prompted to confirm.
Managing indicators
- Contraindications and natural immunity — recorded via the Exemptions tab. See Recording exemptions.
- Vaccine Trial — recorded on the Vaccine Trials tab.
- Planned Catch Up, Action Required, Special Risk Group — managed in AIR or by Services Australia; Light displays them but doesn't set them.
If an indicator looks wrong and isn't something Light manages, the correction has to go through AIR or Services Australia directly.
