Recording exemptions and immunity

Record a medical contraindication or natural immunity on a customer's AIR record.

Some customers can't or shouldn't receive certain vaccinations. Two record types cover this:

  • Medical Contraindication — a clinical reason the vaccine would cause harm (severe allergic reaction, anaphylaxis history)
  • Natural Immunity — the customer has had the disease and has confirmed natural immunity (backed by a lab test or clinical diagnosis)

Both are held in AIR and flow back to Light for display.

Adding a record

  1. Open the exemptions tab

On the customer, go to Immunisations / Exemptions. The page shows two sections: Contraindications and Natural Immunity.

  2. Choose the type

Tap Add, then pick Add Contraindication or Add Natural Immunity.

  3. Fill in the details

Contraindication: vaccine or antigen, reason code, whether it's permanent or temporary, start and end dates, anaphylaxis date if relevant.

Natural Immunity: disease or antigen, notification date, lab test date or diagnosis date.

  4. Submit

The record is saved to the customer's AIR record and the card updates.

Permanent vs temporary contraindications

  • Permanent — the contraindication applies for life (e.g. past anaphylaxis to the vaccine)
  • Temporary — applies for a defined period (e.g. immunosuppression during chemotherapy). Set the end date to when it should expire.

A permanent contraindication shows a Permanent badge; temporary shows Temporary.

How this affects the rest of the record

Recording an exemption also sets a corresponding indicator on the Individual Indicators page. A customer with a contraindication shows Medical Contraindication; one with natural immunity shows Natural Immunity. See Individual indicators for the full list.

The customer's Due Vaccinations list is adjusted automatically — AIR stops recommending vaccines covered by the exemption.
