QLD Free Flu eligibility
Conditions an encounter must meet for a QLD Free Flu claim to be prepared.
Queensland's free seasonal influenza program funds influenza vaccinations delivered in community pharmacies for eligible QLD residents. Light prepares a QLD Free Flu claim automatically when a vaccination encounter meets every condition below.
The 2026 program ends on 30 September 2026.
Eligibility conditions
All of these must be true for the claim to be prepared:
| Condition | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Funding type on the form | State Program for state-supplied stock, or Other for private stock — both claim under this program. Not NIP/Commonwealth, which routes flu vaccines to PPA NIPVIP instead. |
| Pharmacy address | In Queensland |
| Patient's residential address | In Queensland |
| Patient date of birth | Recorded on the customer profile |
| Patient age | 6 months or older at the vaccination date |
| Vaccination date | Between 1 March and 30 September 2026 inclusive |
| Program configuration | QLD Free Flu enabled for the site in Settings›Programs |
If any condition fails, no QLD Free Flu claim is prepared. The vaccination still goes to AIR; it just isn't claimable under this program.
FluMist® age windows
FluMist® is state-funded under the Queensland Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation Program rather than NIPVIP, so it follows its own age rules:
- Ages 2–5 (inclusive) — always state-funded.
- Ages 6–17 (inclusive) for children who struggle with getting a needle — state-funded from 19 May 2026 onward. Dates of service before 19 May 2026 in this age band aren't claimable.
No additional eligibility assessment or documentation is required beyond recording the FluMist encounter; the program rules and the fortnightly declaration cover the criteria.
For all other influenza vaccines, the general 6-months-or-older rule in the table above applies, with NIPVIP taking precedence where the patient is NIP-eligible.
On the Claims page
Eligible claims show QLD Free Flu as their claim-type label, and QLD Free Flu is available in the Claims page's claim-type filter so you can review just this program's claims at a glance.
When a claim doesn't appear
Work through the conditions above in order — the first one that fails is the reason. Common causes:
- Vaccine recorded as NIP/Commonwealth by mistake — amend the encounter, change the funding type to State Program (or Other for private stock), and re-evaluate. See Vaccine funding types for why.
- Patient's address not in QLD on their profile — a mismatch between where they were vaccinated and where they live disqualifies the claim.
- Date of birth missing from the customer profile — without it, Light can't confirm the 6-month minimum age.
