NSW FluMist eligibility
Conditions an encounter must meet for a NSW Free Intranasal (Limited) claim to be prepared.
The NSW Free Intranasal (Limited) program funds FluMist® influenza vaccinations for eligible NSW children. Light evaluates encounters against the program at the point of vaccination and prepares a claim when every condition below is met.
Eligibility conditions
All of these must be true for the claim to be prepared:
| Condition | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Funding type on the form | State Program for state-supplied stock, or Other for private stock — both prepare the claim. Not NIP/Commonwealth. |
| Vaccine product | FluMist® specifically — other influenza vaccines don't trigger this claim |
| Pharmacy address | In New South Wales |
| Patient's residential address | In New South Wales |
| Patient date of birth | Recorded on the customer profile |
| Patient age | See FluMist® age windows below — ages 2–4 always qualify; ages 5–17 qualify from 27 May 2026 |
| Vaccination date | Between 1 April 2026 and 11 June 2026 inclusive — NSW Health brought the program close forward to 11 June 2026 |
| Program configuration | NSW Free Intranasal (Limited) enabled for the site in Settings›Programs, once available |
If any condition fails, no NSW FluMist claim is prepared.
FluMist® age windows
FluMist® is the only product the NSW Free Intranasal (Limited) program funds, and it follows two age windows:
- Ages 2–4 (inclusive) — always state-funded.
- Ages 5–17 (inclusive) for children who struggle with getting a needle — state-funded from 27 May 2026 onward. Dates of service before 27 May 2026 in this age band aren't claimable.
No additional eligibility assessment or documentation is required beyond recording the FluMist encounter; the program rules cover the criteria.
On the Claims page
Eligible claims show NSW Free FluMist as their claim-type label, and NSW Free FluMist is available in the Claims page's claim-type filter so you can review just this program's claims at a glance.
When a claim doesn't appear
Work through the conditions above in order. Common causes:
- Vaccine given wasn't FluMist — the program is product-specific, so other flu vaccines (even for the same patient, same day) don't trigger it.
- Patient is outside the funded age windows for the date of service — 18 or older, or aged 5–17 with a date of service before 27 May 2026. See FluMist® age windows.
- Date of service is outside the program window — before 1 April 2026 or after 11 June 2026, the date NSW Health closed the program. Encounters with an in-window date of service can still be recorded late.
- Patient's address not in NSW — a mismatch between the pharmacy location and the patient's residential address disqualifies the claim.
- Funding type set to NIP/Commonwealth — this routes the dose to a NIPVIP claim instead of NSW FluMist. Record state-supplied FluMist as State Program (or Other for private stock) so it claims under this program. See Vaccine funding types.
